CLASSES
Troupe 1096 offers a selection of classes at Durango High School. Not only are these classes educational, informative, and helpful in broadening your theater experience, but they provide students with an introduction to the troupe.
Acting IActing I is the most basic theatre course. It covers observation, pantomime, melodrama, fairy tales (vocality), character development, monologuing, and auditioning. The course concludes with a performance of a monologue of the student's choice.
This class is a prerequisite to all other acting courses. |
Acting IIActing II is a continuation of the previous Acting I course and it helps students increase their repertoire of acting skills. Acting II is not required to continue on to Acting III but, it is highly recommended. In Acting II you will write monologues, 10 minute plays, and/or

Acting IIIActing III offers material that is a step up from the other acting courses offered. Students must have taken Acting I and/or Acting II beforehand. Although it is a one-semester class, students are highly encouraged to take Advanced Acting throughout the year due to the varying focus each semester.
Course subjects include musical theatre, acting in film/film production, directing, theatre history, acting method, and more. |
Tech Theatre ITech Theatre introduces the first-year or beginning technicians to the diverse elements of stagecraft and theatrical production. This is an experiential class – students should expect to build, paint, climb ladders, lift things and handle power tools in this class.
Our objective is to learn the basics of theatre terminology and to obtain the hands-on skills to properly execute the basic theatre production. |
Tech Theatre IITech Theater 2 offers material that is a step up from the other tech theater course offered. Students must have taken the Tech Theater 1 course. Although it is a one-semester class, students are highly encouraged to take the advanced tech theater class throughout the year due to the varying focus each semester.

Studio ProductionIn Studio Production, upperclassmen produce a show to be performed at the end of the semester in May. The class consists of the cast, who will rehearse during the 50-minute period, and tech heads/designers.
To participate in this course, students must first audition/interview in December. After they have completed this process, the class can be added to schedules for the second semester of the school year. |
